The Lester River, which flows into Lake Superior in the northeast end of Duluth is usually a bubbling little brook, cascading down the hill in a rather peacful fashion. However, the day I took this picture in August of 1993, it had rained for about three days straight. This and all of the other North Shore streams were swollen, flooding, and screaming down the hill at a pace that I'd never witnessed before.
I took the picture from one of the bridges along Seven Bridges Road in Duluth. It was almost dark, so I just balanced my camera on the bridge so I could use a slow enough shutter speed to capture the shot. Not being one who keeps track of these things, I'm not sure what I had the shutter speed set at, but I believe it was set at about 1/4 of a second.
This photo was taken with a Honeywell Pentax SP-1000 (Spotmatic) camera using a wide angle lens and Kodacolor 400 film.
The digital image was created by having it put on on Photo CD, then converting and retouching it using Corel Photo Paint 5 and Paint Shop Pro for Windows.
